Our installation’s namesake, LTG. Hunter Liggett, participated in the last major offensive of World War I: The Meuse-Argonne. Between the Meuse River and the nearly impenetrable Argonne Forest of France, LTG Liggett commanded the American Expeditionary Force’s I Corps through an intense battle that reached through German lines. It was the largest battle in American history as determined by the number of ground forces and casualties.
